PE and Sports Premium
DFE VISION FOR THE PRIMARY PE & SPORT PREMIUM
All pupils leave primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy, active lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.
At St John's Academy, we have worked hard to raise the profile and ensure a high quality of PE & Sport in the curriculum, both during and beyond the school day. Our work in this area has benefitted from government funding provided for primary schools, in addition to main school funding.
We continue to implement a whole school approach to promoting healthy lifestyles and continued professional development.
Our 5 key areas are:
1. Strong engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick starting healthy active lifestyles
2. Embed a high profile of PE and sport across EYFS
3. Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport in EYFS
4. Offer a broad experience of a range of sports and activities to all pupils
5. Ensure grant is used effectively and based on school need
In September 2014 the decision was taken by the Vale Academy Trust to appoint a full-time Head of Primary PE to work across all school within the trust. Combined with the existing knowledge and experience of our PE co-ordinator, we are working hard to establish and maintain a high profile of PE & Sport, on improving provision and in raising pupil participation in sporting activities.
The Primary Head of PE and Sport (Paul Chadwick) supports the delivery of PE and Sport across the Vale Academy Trust through a coaching model and works closely with the trust PE Co-coordinators.
